Greek Immigrants in Nevada

Many Greek people immigrated to Nevada hoping, like so many other immigrants, to find a good job and a better life.  America was seen as the land of opportunity.  Greeks settled throughout Nevada, finding work, making homes, and raising families.  It was often a difficult life.  Some of the babies and children buried in the Ely cemetery are Greek.  One family, Eliades, has three headstones with no dates or first names.  They all read "Baby Eliades".  Obviously, Greek immigrants suffered many of the hardships and tragedies that other people in Nevada suffered.  But, like other immigrants, Greeks also encountered prejudice and discrimination.
